This is what the Gundel Awards ceremony and gala lunch at Gundel were like

On 15 October, the certificates and commemorative plaques were presented to this year’s recipients of the Károly Gundel Award during a gala lunch held in the ballroom of the Gundel Restaurant.

The award is open to individuals who, within the Hungarian hospitality sector, are exemplary followers of Károly Gundel’s life and gastronomic legacy – as defined by the Hungarian Catering Trade Association (MVI), which established the Gundel Award in 2014.

The names of this year’s award winners were announced on 22 September – the day before the 140th anniversary of Károly Gundel’s birth – by a jury comprising representatives of professional organisations and the Gundel family announced at the Hungarian Museum of Trade and Hospitality.

As we reported earlier, the two prize-winners In 2023 Katalin Pintér, the founder and owner of Gerbeaud Gastronomy Ltd. (Gerbeaud Café, Onyx Workshop, Émile Restaurant) and Sándor Nyíri (Sasha), chef and co-owner of the Arany Kaviár Restaurant.

The two award winners received their awards and commemorative plaques at a gala dinner held at Gundel Restaurant on Sunday.

He appeared as a guest of honour at the awards gala dinner Tamás Freund, the President of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, who, in keeping with tradition, was present János Gundel, who is also a representative of the Gundel family.

In keeping with tradition the menu for the awards ceremony gala lunch the two winners from last year, Marcsi Borbás and János Macsinka compiled.

It has also become a tradition for students from vocational colleges and higher education institutions to play a part in preparing and serving the menu.
