{"id":17750,"date":"2024-03-12T15:24:00","date_gmt":"2024-03-12T13:24:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gundel.hu\/?post_type=sajto&#038;p=17750"},"modified":"2024-07-11T15:27:13","modified_gmt":"2024-07-11T13:27:13","slug":"gundels-waiters-also-communicate-in-sign-language","status":"publish","type":"sajto","link":"https:\/\/gundel.hu\/en\/sajtoszoba\/gundel-jelnyelven-is-kommunikalo-pincerek\/","title":{"rendered":"GUNDEL \u2013 waiters who also communicate using sign language"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From now on, people with hearing and visual impairments will receive special attention at the Gundel restaurant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The waiting staff have learnt basic sign language in both English and Hungarian, whilst visually impaired guests can discover the stories behind the dishes at Hungary\u2019s most famous restaurant from a menu written in Braille.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A short film about Gundel has also been made, directed by P\u00e9ter Bergendy, and it is available from today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Attention to detail and respect are key pillars of the restaurant, where, from now on, guests with hearing or visual impairments can enjoy the authentic Gundel experience even more fully. The waiting staff have learnt the 10 most important sign language gestures for guests in both English and Hungarian, whilst a Braille menu detailing the story behind each dish helps to ensure an even higher standard of service for guests with visual impairments. In addition to all this, accessibility is also a priority throughout the restaurant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Gundel is particularly proud that its team is made up of such an inclusive community, which works day in, day out to ensure that everyone feels at home there. This Gundel hospitality, which is also extended to people with disabilities, is showcased in a recently filmed short film directed by the renowned P\u00e9ter Bergendy, whose credits include \u201eThe Exam\u201d and \u201ePost Mortem\u201d, amongst others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"The Gundel is for EVERYONE! - Gundel Restaurant x Bergendy and Sons\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/XarEs-aVQ-A?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As well as its emotional value, the short film also has educational significance. The film director said: the short film, produced in collaboration with Gundel, tells a very human story which, as well as offering a glimpse into the workings of this special restaurant with its rich history and ever-evolving nature, also presents a fine example of people looking out for one another \u2013 a value that is increasingly being lost in today\u2019s world. This is precisely why it is important that we remind ourselves time and again just how simple an act it is to pay attention, and yet what everyday miracles it can bring about.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jen\u0151 Magyary, Managing Director of Gundel, confirmed that, alongside its legendary hospitality, social responsibility and sensitivity have always been part of Gundel\u2019s core values, and have shaped the attitude of those who work here, which is now also evident in the care shown towards guests with visual and hearing impairments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The two founding owners of the Eventrend Group, which operates Gundel, Zolt\u00e1n K\u0151r\u00f6ssy and G\u00e1bor Nagy, said:&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/foodandwine.hu\/2022\/09\/19\/gundel-gundel-leszarmazottak-talalkozoja\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">K\u00e1roly Gundel<\/a>&nbsp;He ran the restaurant in V\u00e1rosliget \u2013 founded in 1894 and later named after him \u2013 with the intention that its doors should be open to everyone. He shaped Gundel into a place defined by hospitality, culinary artistry and the preservation of tradition \u2013 a place where it is always a pleasure to visit.
