The venue has now become an unmissable gastronomic and cultural institution in Hungary and Budapest\u2019s City Park, whilst the Gundel legacy rightly bears the title of \u2018Hungaricum\u2019.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He emphasised that the history of the Gundel family is synonymous with the rise of Hungarian gastronomy and high-quality Hungarian hospitality. The Gundels have hosted kings, heads of state and world-famous artists; their establishment is the \u201epalace of gastronomy\u201d, and this development continues to this day. This is exemplified by the garden, which has been revitalised beneath the centuries-old plane trees of the City Park, he added. Istv\u00e1n Tarl\u00f3s congratulated the living members of the Gundel family, its director and all its staff for faithfully preserving this outstanding heritage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In his opening address, Istv\u00e1n Komor\u00f3czki, State Secretary for Planning Co-ordination at the Ministry of National Economy (NGM), noted that, due to their multiplier effect, tourism and the hospitality sector generate nearly 10 per cent of the country\u2019s GDP, making them among the most important economic sectors. He explained that the European Union has also recognised that tourism represents a turning point for European economies, and the NGM also believes there is great potential in the sector.He reported that on Thursday they had reviewed areas for support with representatives of the European Commission, including tourism. According to their calculations, between 2014 and 2020, 200 billion forints will be made available to the country to raise the standard of services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">T\u00e1d\u00e9 Alf\u00f6ldy, managing director of Gundel Kft., which operates the Gundel restaurant, said that during the six-month refurbishment works, the garden \u2013 covering nearly 2,500 square metres \u2013 was revitalised and the landscaped area was expanded. As part of the project, the palace\u2019s upper terrace was also refurbished, along with the restaurant\u2019s main entrance; the project was financed entirely by the company itself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 2013, the company increased its turnover to 1.64 billion forints, up from 1.3 billion forints a year earlier.
