The trade guild marked the birthday of J\u00e1nos Gundel (1844\u20131915) with a quiet commemoration in a small gathering, at the J\u00e1nos Gundel commemorative plaque, unveiled in June 2016, at 1 Akad\u00e9mia Street in the 5th district.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Chairman L\u00e1szl\u00f3 Kov\u00e1cs said that the MVI has always regarded the preservation of traditions as an important task, with particular regard to J\u00e1nos Gundel, who served as president of the Hoteliers\u2019 and Restaurateurs\u2019 Trade Association \u2013 the predecessor of the MVI \u2013 for 35 years, and later as its honorary president for life.\u00a0At the ceremony, representing the Gundel family, Dr J\u00e1nos Gundel, a professor at BGE, paid tribute to the founder of the world-famous restaurant dynasty in a brief retrospective, thanked the trade association for organising this small commemoration every year, and the wreath-laying ceremony at the memorial plaque then took place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Among those attending this year\u2019s event was Dr R\u00f3bert T\u00f6r\u00f6k, Director-General of the Hungarian Museum of Trade and Hospitality, whom we asked about the relationship between the museum and the Gundel family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
