Presented by the BKIK for the first time this year \u201eAward for Excellence in Dual Training Institutions\u201d <\/strong>We asked recognised experts from award-winning restaurants for their views on their expectations for this summer. G\u00e1bor Horv\u00e1th, the manager of the Gundel restaurant, spoke to bkik.hu.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

What are the expectations for the 2026 summer season?<\/strong>
\u201eWe are looking forward to the 2026 summer season with great anticipation and optimism. We have recently devoted a great deal of energy to further enhancing the guest experience, and one of the most important elements of this is our refurbished garden area, which will offer our guests a more modern, comfortable and even more atmospheric setting. We believe that during the summer months, the combination of a pleasant atmosphere and a high-quality dining experience is particularly important, which is why we have paid special attention to this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201dWhat new dishes are you planning, and how is the menu shaping up?\u201d<\/strong>
As the season gets underway, so does our new summer menu, which focuses on lighter, fresh, seasonal dishes and drinks. Our aim is to combine the classic Gundel atmosphere with modern, summery flavours, so that our guests will always find exciting new dishes to enjoy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Summer dining in the Gundel Garden is, of course, influenced by the weather, so we are hoping for a pleasant, balanced season. The Gundel Garden will once again play an important role this year: amongst other things, we are preparing programmes such as \u2018Midsummer Night \u2013 The Garden of Lights\u2019 and \u2018An Evening of Music and Dance in the Gundel Garden\u2019, which will elevate the atmosphere of our al fresco dinners into a truly special experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We\u2019re already seeing a lot of interest from guests; many are keen to see the refurbished garden area and the new summer menu. We are delighted that Hungarian guests continue to show such keen interest in Gundel, whilst we also hope that many foreign tourists will visit Hungary this summer and that as many of them as possible will come to see us. Gundel has always been an important meeting place for both local and international guests, and we would like to further strengthen this tradition in the 2026 season as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201dWe believe that people are still looking for places where, as well as fine dining, they can enjoy an experience and some relaxation, and we hope to create many memorable moments for them this summer too.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We are preparing a completely revamped menu for this season, which sets a new standard not only in terms of its selection but also its presentation. We have created new menu holders and a completely new menu design, placing great emphasis on ensuring that it visually reflects Gundel\u2019s elegance and modern gastronomic approach. We considered spectacular food and drink photographs to be of paramount importance, as we want our guests to enjoy the experience from the moment they pick up the menu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When putting together the menu, we aimed to ensure that lighter, fresher dishes, perfect for the summer season, feature prominently. Several new salads, fish dishes, grilled dishes and dishes based on seasonal ingredients have been added to the menu, all of which perfectly complement the summer atmosphere of the garden terrace. Of course, traditional Hungarian dishes and Gundel classics continue to play an important role, as our guests remain very keen on these.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We also pay particular attention to showcasing Gundel\u2019s culinary heritage. Among the centrepieces of our menu is the \u2018National 11\u2019 selection, which showcases those iconic Hungarian recipes \u2013 Gundel dishes \u2013 that have defined Hungarian gastronomy for generations. We believe that these dishes represent not only tradition but also cultural heritage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new menu was conceived by corporate chef Andr\u00e1s Wolf and executive chef R\u00f3bert V\u00e9rten, in collaboration with the Gundel kitchen team. Their aim is to create a menu that is modern, fresh and visually striking, whilst preserving the tradition, quality and hospitality that the Gundel name has stood for for over 130 years.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
