Gundel is one of Hungary’s oldest and best-known restaurants. Celebrating its 130th anniversary this year, the restaurant has kicked off the spring season with a bang, which is sure to delight many.

Gundel is not only a renowned restaurant, but also the birthplace of a host of well-known Hungarian dishes. As well as the famous pancakes, Gundel is also credited with creating the Rákóczi cottage cheese dish, the Újházi chicken soup and the Somlói galuska. Located in the City Park, next to the Zoo, the restaurant aims to remain at the forefront of Hungarian gastronomy – and not just when it comes to food.

THE WAITERS AT GUNDEL CAN NOW SIGN LANGUAGE TOO

Gundel’s waiters have learnt basic sign language as part of a training course, which will make serving deaf and hard-of-hearing guests in the restaurant much smoother. They have also made provision for guests with other disabilities; for example, a Braille version of the menu has been produced for blind or partially sighted guests. To the management’s knowledge, no other restaurant in Hungary has yet implemented a similar solution.

With innovation and raising awareness in mind, Péter Bergendy has shot a promotional video for the Gundel restaurant.
