The Turkish Embassy in Hungary has indicated that it would like to express its gratitude to the brave Hungarian rescue teams, and so it hosted a thank-you lunch for them at Gundel.

Just as as reported by Magyar Konyha, Károly Gundel was a true host, who treated his regular customers like family. The restaurant’s current managers have kept this tradition alive to this day.

Staff from the Turkish Embassy were frequent visitors to Gundel, so it was only natural that, following the tragedy of the earthquake, the restaurant’s management contacted the Turkish Embassy in Hungary and offered their assistance. Staff at the embassy indicated that they would like to to express their gratitude to the brave rescue teams, and that is how the idea for the thank-you lunch came about.

It was nothing less than a shared meal with the heroes in the Queen Elizabeth Ballroom at the Gundel Palace, to which not only the members of the rescue teams were invited, but the rescue dogs as well: they too were treated to a white tablecloth and delicious treats.

Chicken paprikash with nokedli, served with a cucumber salad with sour cream
Rákóczi cottage cheesecake

Braised veal, served with pasta cooked in the same sauce

According to the reports, all the guests were thoroughly satisfied with the lunch. The dogs dined in small groups so as not to cause any trouble for the guests, who were tucking in at lightning speed and eyeing up the others’ meals. Anyone who asked even got a second helping!
