The Queen enjoyed her lunch so much that she used a piece of bread to mop up the paprika and sour cream sauce from her plate.

Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip visited Budapest on 5 May 1993, and the then Prime Minister, József Antall, hosted an official luncheon in their honour. Chef Kálmán Kalla devised the menu for the lunch in such a way that the crown featured in every course.

The starter – home-smoked salmon with white asparagus – was served in the shape of a crown; the vegetables in the soup were cut into crown shapes, and the arch of the braided veal fillet also resembled a crown.

The Queen is said to have enjoyed the meal so much that she dipped bread into the sour cream and paprika sauce, whilst Prince Philip even ordered a beer from the waiter.
